Firings in the NFL happen all the time, and for most, they are clean breaks, and everyone goes their separate ways after the news drops, but there is a correct way to do it, and Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti was hellbent on making sure he did it right.

With Bisciotti firing John Harbaugh after 18 years as head coach, it was something that had to be done carefully and the right way.

But as we know, in life, things don't always go according to plan, and Bisciotti didn't want to fire Harbaugh over the phone, but unfortunately, that's exactly what happened.

"I never dreamed of firing somebody by phone," Bisciotti said. "But the reality is, when I made my decision on Tuesday afternoon, I was home, he was in his car heading to his house, I thought it would be a jerk move to call him up and say, hey, coach, meet me at the office in an hour. He probably would have said Steve, I'd rather not want to just tell me over the phone.

"When I did tell him the decision that I made, I said, I'm really sorry about doing this over the phone. I wish we were together. And he said, you don't owe me an apology for that either.”

Ravens go through huge shake-up

The NFL is a results business, and when you don't get the right results, people lose their jobs.

There's no denying that the Ravens have underachieved over the past few seasons, and Bisciotti stated that played a role in his decision.

But with Harbaugh out, the Ravens will likely have to find a new coordinator for Lamar Jackson, as Todd Monken doesn't appear to be back either.

So, the winds of change are blowing through Baltimore as this once settled organization has been turned upside down.

Yes, Bisciotti didn't want to fire Harbaugh over the phone, but sometimes things are unavoidable.
