Ravens earn B+ for deadline trade

Ravens given B+ grade for trade pulled off before NFL deadline image

The Baltimore Ravens might have more work to do before Tuesday's NFL trade deadline.

But they've already gotten a bit of good business done.

Last week, the Ravens sent cornerback Jaire Alexander and a seventh-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for a sixth-round pick.

ESPN's Seth Walder gave Baltimore a B+ grade for the deal.

"For the Ravens, this is a freebie," Walder writes. "They're saving a little money (Alexander's contract was guaranteed) and gaining a little draft capital for a player who wasn't playing for them anyway."

The Ravens got Alexander before the season after the Green Bay Packers let him go, but he quickly moved to the outside looking in, even as Baltimore struggled.

Now, the Ravens have won two games in a row to improve to 3-5, and they've got real belief of making a playoff push with Lamar Jackson back on the field.

It just doesn't seem like Alexander would've played any role in getting Baltimore back in the race.

For the Eagles, it was worth the dart throw. They also traded for cornerback Michael Carter II from the Jets. Clearly, they felt that was a need.

The Ravens had no problem hopping in to improve their draft capital just a bit while saving some money. There's really no losing on this deal for Baltimore.

If the Ravens do any more dealing before the deadline, it'll likely be to bring players in. They're back in the hunt, and they need all the help they can get to make it all the way back from the depths.
