The Atlanta Falcons are eagerly awaiting the start of the regular season, having largely rested their starters during the preseason. Much of their success will hinge on first-year full-time starter Michael Penix Jr. Penix has been ramping up for the season and even found himself in some scuffles during joint practices.

“A big brawl just happened. Michael Penix Jr. looked like he was right in the middle of it and might’ve taken some shots. Biggest fight I’ve seen so far between Falcons and Titans,” Fox5 Atlanta’s Miles Garrett wrote.

On Wednesday, Kaleb McGary suffered what appears to be a significant injury, putting Penix’s blindside in jeopardy—especially since McGary’s backup is also sidelined with an injury.

“Atlanta is currently without swing tackle Storm Norton, who has been dealing with an injury of his own over the past few weeks. Without McGary or Norton, the tackle position opposite Jake Matthews is in a grim state. The current options to step in for McGary would be veteran Brandon Parker or rookie Jack Nelson. Both have been inconsistent at best throughout the preseason and training camp,” The Falcoholic’s Kevin Knight wrote.

If McGary’s injury turns out to be serious, the Falcons could look to trade for Chiefs’ Wanya Morris to fill the void.

“Another to keep an eye on is Wanya Morris of the Chiefs. Not the best but is serviceable for the time being. Still 2 yrs left on his rookie deal so it isn’t a huge cap hit. Could probably get him by sending a 6th or 7th,” BroTalk of The Reporting Eligible Podcast posted.

Morris would be a solid temporary replacement until McGary can return. The timing of McGary’s injury is unfortunate, especially with Norton also sidelined. However, the Falcons are prepared to do whatever it takes to protect Penix, and acquiring Morris could be just the solution they need.
