Falcons' Michael Penix Jr. shows inspiring view on football career despite devastating injury history image

The Atlanta Falcons had quite the week during their joint practice sessions with the Titans. There was plenty of chirping and jawing back and forth. However, it was their QB Michael Penix Jr. who found himself right in the middle of a scuffle with the Titans.

“A big brawl just happened. Michael Penix Jr. looked like he was right in the middle of it and might’ve taken some shots. Biggest fight I’ve seen so far between Falcons and Titans,” Fox5 Atlanta’s Miles Garrett wrote.

After the altercation, Penix was praised by his team for how he handled himself. They appreciated that Penix wasn’t going to back down from anyone. Following the scuffle, Penix told the media that he usually isn’t that type of guy.

“I was somebody else," Penix said of his headspace in the moment. "So I don't even remember.”

If there is any concern for Penix heading into his first full year as the Falcons’ starter, it’s his injury history. The early part of his college career was filled with injuries, but he now has a very different mindset about them.

“I don't really focus on it anymore," Penix said this week of his injury-filled past. "I talked about it before, my past. 2021 was a tough season for me because I was thinking about injuries. I wasn't able to play at a high level because that's where my mind was. I wasn't able to play at the level that I wanted to,” Penix told the media. “Now it's like, I've been injured four times. I just pray, trusting my faith and trust that God's going to protect me. I go out there and have fun because at any moment it could be my last play. That's for anybody. This is the game that we play. We know it comes with a lot, but we all love it. That's why we do it each and every day, and that's what I'm going to continue to do each and every day."

It’s never easy dealing with repeated injuries, especially mentally. However, Penix seems in a good spot and ready to lead Atlanta. This season promises to be an exciting one for the Falcons, with Penix poised to be their leader.
