The Atlanta Falcons have had a rough 2025 campaign, but running back Bijan Robinson is still posting elite numbers.

Through 12 games this year, Robinson has tallied 995 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns on 5.1 yards per carry. The Texas product has also added 54 receptions for 594 yards and two touchdowns through the air, showcasing his versatility as an all-around back.

With Robinson establishing himself as a cornerstone player for Atlanta, it would be wise for the franchise to begin contract extension talks with its star running back. Spotrac projects Robinson's extension will be worth $56.8 million over three years, with an average annual value of $18.9 million.

An extension worth just under $19 million annually would make Robinson the third-highest-paid running back in football, ahead of Derrick Henry and Jonathan Taylor, and under Saquon Barkley and Christian McCaffrey.

We also have to factor in that other young running backs, especially Jahmyr Gibbs of the Detroit Lions, will also be signing extensions around the same time as Robinson. As a result, Atlanta should be able to sign the 2024 Pro Bowler to a somewhat team-friendly contract that also pays Robinson the money he deserves.

The Falcons would be absolutely foolish not to pay Robinson, though the team could wait till the 2027 offseason to get an extension done if they exercise his fifth-year option this offseason.

However, getting a new deal done before the market resets in a few years would be a savvy move from Atlanta. Given Robinson's play since he entered the league as the No.7 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, extending him now is totally justified.
