As we turn the page to Week 12 of the 2025 NFL campaign, the status of Arizona Cardinals running back Trey Benson remains up in the air.
Benson was placed on injured reserve in Week 5 due to a knee injury and was eligible to return in Week 10.
However, Benson has yet to be activated and is now approaching the third week past the minimum-required four-week stay.
Now, we turn our attention to this week, when Benson could once again be designated to return and then activated. Here's what we know about that.
Will Trey Benson return in Week 12?
WEDNESDAY UPDATE: Benson was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, which is obviously a step in the right direction. We'll need to see a full practice from the second-year running back before being confident he'll play.
WEDNESDAY UPDATE: The Cardinals have announced that Benson has been designated to return from injured reserve, opening his 21-day window to be activated.
However, head coach Jonathan Gannon did not confirm whether or not Benson will play and said the team will take it day by day.
END OF UPDATE
MONDAY UPDATE: Well, not exactly an update.
There was no mention of Benson's status during head coach Jonathan Gannon's Monday presser, so it looks like we'll have to wait until Wednesday to find out more.
END OF UPDATE
We don't have a concrete answer to this question yet.
The initial timetable reported for Benson's injury, which was to his meniscus, was four to six weeks. We are now entering the seventh week of that timeline, so it's possible he returns for the Week 12 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
However, there has been no indication that will happen.
Last week, head coach Jonathan Gannon noted that Benson was making progress and the team is taking it day by day with him, but that was all he offered as far as an update is concerned.
"He's doing well. Take it day-by-day there," Gannon said of Benson. "He's not gonna be out there today, but he is doing better. What does close mean? I don't know what close means.
"Take it day-by-day, but he's doing well. He's progressing."
We should know more on Wednesday, which is when Benson will likely be designated to return if it's going to happen at all this week.
