TL;DR

  • Trey Benson remains on injured reserve and will miss Week 13 due to knee surgery.
  • He has not played since Week 4 and his return timeline is uncertain.
  • Benson is unlikely for Week 14, with Week 15 appearing more probable for his return.
  • The Arizona Cardinals must activate him from IR by December 10th.

The Arizona Cardinals will once again be without starting running back Trey Benson in Week 13.

Benson continues his recovery from arthroscopic knee surgery which placed him on injured reserve. The second-year running back has not participated in any games since Week 4.

Benson was designated to return from injured reserve on Nov. 19, but the Cardinals have yet to activate him from the list and he was ruled out again for Week 13.

Here's what we know about his return timeline.

When can we expect Trey Benson's return?

An definitive response to this inquiry remains elusive, but it appears unlikely that the Cardinals' running back will be ready for Week 14's contest.

Benson recorded a fourth-straight limited practice on Wednesday, yet he was absent from practice during the latter two days of the week, prompting considerable speculation about whether Benson had experienced a relapse.

Cardinals' head coach Jonathan Gannon declined to confirm or deny that assertion, instead emphasizing that the team is managing Benson's situation on a daily basis.

"Gannon won’t use that term. Continues to say Benson is evaluated day by day. Since he’s already on IR, next big step is next week. Deadline to put him on roster approaches," Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com wrote.

With a 21-day window to bring him back, the Cardinals must decide by December 10th, meaning he might participate in one of the upcoming two contests.

Given that Benson concluded the week as someone not participating in practice, we don't anticipate his return for Week 14; rather, Week 15 appears more probable.
