TL;DR

  • Trey Benson, Arizona Cardinals running back, missed practice Thursday due to a knee injury setback.
  • Benson has been on injured reserve since Week 4 and his return prospects for Week 13 are now uncertain.
  • The Cardinals face running back depth issues with James Conner out and Emari Demercado also injured.
  • If Benson cannot play, Bam Knight and Michael Carter will likely handle the workload.

It seems Arizona Cardinals running back Trey Benson has experienced a setback in his recovery from a knee ailment.

According to Zach Gershman of AZCardinals.com, Benson did not take part in practice on Thursday after being limited on Wednesday.

"Trey Benson did not practice on Thursday. The Cardinals running back had been dealing with a knee injury," Gershman wrote.

Naturally, at this point, one would anticipate Benson to be advancing in his recuperation, rather than regressing.

This situation points to the latter, which is clearly unfavorable for his prospects of rejoining the game by Week 13.

Benson hasn't participated in games been on injured reserve after sustaining a knee injury during Week 4. Although he was eligible to be activated from the injured reserve list the previous week, he ultimately remained inactive.

However, there was clearly renewed optimism that he might return during this current week. Presently, we must wonder if that will materialize following this most recent turn of events.

The Cardinals have faced significant challenges at the running back position this season. In addition to Benson's injury, the team has seen James Conner sidelined for the remainder of the year, and now Emari Demercado is also dealing with physical issues.

Should Benson not be back for Week 13, Bam Knight will face another substantial workload, with Michael Carter providing relief.
