The status of Arizona Cardinals running back Trey Benson for Week 5 is now in doubt after it was revealed he's dealing with an injury on Wednesday.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Benson is dealing with a knee issue that calls into question his ability to play on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.
Schefter reveals that Benson "banged his knee" near the end of the Week 4 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, and while it isn't thought to be serious, he could sit on Sunday.
"Another RB whose status for Sunday is now in question: Cardinals RB Trey Benson. Near the end of last Thursday’s game vs. the Seahawks, Benson banged his knee. It is not thought to be serious, but his status for Sunday now is in question," Schefter said.
UPDATE: Since this article was published, the Cardinals announced Benson is heading to injured reserve.
End of update
Benson got the call as the Cardinals' starting running back in Week 4 after fellow back James Conner suffered a season-ending ankle injury.
Benson carried the rock nine times for 22 yards and added three receptions for 15 yards in what was the second start of his young career.
Next up on the Cardinals' depth chart is Emari Demercado, who served as Benson's backup last week. Arizona also has Michael Carter and Bam Knight on the 53-man roster, but Demercado figures to get the nod as the starter if Benson is out.
Demercado appeared in 17 games and made two starts for the Cardinals over the past two seasons. He tallied 82 carries for 507 yards and three touchdowns in that span while also adding 37 catches for 223 yards.
He was serving as Arizona's No. 3 back behind Conner and Benson before their injuries.
