There haven't been a lot of positives for the Arizona Cardinals this season, but wide receiver Michael Wilson has no doubt been one of them.
With Marvin Harrison Jr. In and out of the lineup in recent weeks due to an appendectomy and heel injury, Wilson has absolutely exploded.
The former third-round pick has tallied three 100-yard games in the last four weeks, with the only contest he didn't break the century mark coming when Harrison Jr. Returned to the lineup in Week 13 from his appendectomy.
Wilson posted 15/185/0 in Week 11, 10/118/0 in Week 12, and then 11/142/2 in Week 14 while serving as Arizona's No. 1 wide receiver.
With those monster performances, Wilson has now tallied more 100-yard games in the last four weeks (three) than Harrison has tallied in 27 career games (two).
That is just stunning to think about for a wide receiver who has been an afterthought in the offense for the vast majority of his career.
Wilson's success has coincided with Harrison's absence, but also with quarterback Jacoby Brissett taking over as the starter in the wake of the season-ending foot injury to starting signal-caller Kyler Murray.
While it is no doubt clear that Harrison's absence has played a role in Wilson's lackluster production, it's also clear that Murray has been holding him back.
We can't say exactly why that is for sure, but the numbers don't lie. Brissett has been a clear upgrade for Wilson, even before Harrison's injury.
Over the first five weeks of the season when Murray was still under center, Wilson averaged just 10.4 receiving yards per game.
Since Week 6, when Brissett took over, Wilson is now averaging a whopping 81.5 yards per contest. Even if you take out his three 100-yard games, there is still a clear difference, with Wilson averaging 43 yards per in those five contests.
Over the first two seasons of his career, Wilson tallied 565 and 548 receiving yards, respectively. He has 445 yards over his three 100-yard games and is now having a career year with 712 receiving yards entering Week 15.
We always knew Wilson was more talented than his numbers indicated, it just took the perfect storm for him to finally show it.
