Texas quarterback Arch Manning was named one of 15 finalists for the Manning Award, the Allstate Sugar Bowl announced Thursday.

Manning was among five players added to the finalist list following his standout performance in Texas’ Cheez-It Citrus Bowl victory over Michigan on Dec. 31. The winner will be announced after the College Football Playoff national championship game on Jan. 19.

Created by the Sugar Bowl to honor the collegiate careers of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning, the award is the only quarterback honor that factors bowl and playoff performances into its voting.

As you can imagine given the namesake, the internet comments were on fire after the news was announced. Here's are some of the best ones. 

 

 

 

In his first full season as a starter, Manning guided the Texas Longhorns to a 10-3 record and a third straight 10-win season, the program’s longest streak since 2007-09. Texas finished the year winning seven of its final eight games, including four victories over AP Top 20 opponents.

Manning completed 248 of 404 passes for 3,163 yards and 26 touchdowns across 13 starts, while adding 399 rushing yards and a team-best 10 rushing touchdowns. He averaged more than 243 passing yards per game and ranked among the nation’s most productive dual-threat quarterbacks.

Manning ended his season by earning Citrus Bowl MVP honors in a 41-27 win over Michigan, accounting for 376 total yards and four touchdowns. The performance included 221 passing yards, 155 rushing yards and two scores through the air and on the ground.

The nephew of Peyton and Eli was also named a semifinalist for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, further adding to a breakout sophomore campaign that now places him among the nation’s top quarterbacks heading into the postseason awards season.
