Texas Tech, Joey McGuire agree to contract extension amid coaching carousel image

Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire has agreed to a new seven-year contract extension that will keep him with the Red Raiders through the 2032 season, according to Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger

The deal is expected to escalate to more than $7 million annually by the end of the term, further solidifying McGuire’s place as one of the Big 12’s highest-paid coaches.

The extension comes as No. 5 Texas Tech (11-1, 8-1 Big 12) prepares for one of the biggest games in program history in Saturday’s Big 12 Championship matchup against No. 11 BYU in Dallas.

Since taking over in 2022, McGuire has posted a 34-17 overall record, including a 24-12 mark in conference play. His culture and strong Texas recruiting ties have helped the program emerge as a legitimate contender. They're also one win away from a possible College Football Playoff bid.

Before his time in Lubbock, McGuire spent five seasons at Baylor, where he served in multiple roles, including associate head coach. He previously built Cedar Hill High School into a Texas powerhouse over 14 seasons.
