Texas Tech earned its highest College Football Playoff ranking in program history Tuesday night at No. 8, landing inside the top 12 of the latest CFP rankings released by the selection committee.
Texas Tech earns its first-ever College Football Playoff ranking in program history
Joey McGuire’s team started rolling past Arkansas-Pine Bluff 67-7 and Kent State 62-14. Another marquee victory over Oregon State (45-14) rallied Tech forward. They continued their unbeaten streak, downing No. 16 Utah 34-10 on the road and dispatching Houston 35-11 and Kansas 42-17 in conference play. After a narrow loss at Arizona State, the Red Raiders bounced back with a dominant 42-0 shutout of Oklahoma State and a statement 43-20 win at Kansas State, where their defense forced five turnovers and outscored the Wildcats 31-13 in the second half.
Texas Tech faces a pivotal stretch to close out November, hosting No. 8 BYU in a top-10 showdown in Lubbock this Saturday. The remaining schedule also includes UCF and a season finale at West Virginia. Continued success could secure their spot in the New Year’s Six bowls, a target that seemed far-fetched before the season’s start.
