A Texas state trooper who made contact with two South Carolina players during Saturday’s game at Texas A&M has been relieved of his game-day duties, officials said. 

The incident occurred late in the second quarter after Gamecocks receiver Nyck Harbor caught an 80-yard touchdown pass and briefly exited toward the tunnel while grabbing his right leg. Oscar Adaway III followed Harbor up the ramp. As the players turned to return to the field, a state trooper appeared to bump into Adaway, wedging himself between the two South Carolina players before turning and pointing at them in what looked like a reprimand.

“The Texas Department of Public Safety DPS) is aware of the incident that occurred today during the Texas A&M football game,” the agency said in a statement via ESPN. “The DPS Trooper involved was sent home from the game. Our Office of Inspector General is also aware of the incident and will be further looking into the matter.”

Texas A&M said the trooper will not work future home games while the review is ongoing.

The No. 3 Aggies (10-0) went on to erase a 30-3 halftime deficit in a historic comeback, becoming the first SEC team in 93 years to rally from 27 points or more down. They won 31-30 over the Gamecocks.
