Finebaum's SEC CFP ranking ire

Paul Finebaum voices frustration over one SEC team in CFP rankings image

ESPN’s Paul Finebaum didn’t hide his displeasure with the first College Football Playoff rankings released Tuesday night. The longtime analyst appeared on Wednesday's episode of Get Up and said he has a “clear problem” with how the selection committee evaluated Texas A&M.

“I do have one complaint if I could share that,” Finebaum said. “And that’s Texas A&M. In many ways, I think they probably have the best resume in the country." He went on to say, "To me, they should be No. 2. Now, ok, sue me if you’re Indiana.”

Finebaum had no issue with Ohio State’s No. 1 ranking. But his frustration came with Indiana’s placement ahead of the Aggies. Even though the Hoosiers have no single-digit wins this season, compared to three from Texas A&M. He cited the Aggies wins at Notre Dame, Arkansas and LSU as examples of a more demanding road schedule than what the Hoosiers have faced.

However, Finebaum showed his SEC homer streak with Arkansas and LSU now working with interim coaches and not top opponents. While ESPN’s Football Power Index ranks A&M ninth overall, it lists the Aggies’ strength of schedule at No. 15 nationally, which is far higher than Hoosiers' No. 39. But Indiana' 30-20 win over then-No. 6 Oregon and remaining undefeated in Big Ten play are huge factors.

The Aggies’ case could resolve itself soon, with remaining ranked road tests at Missouri and Texas. Many are wondering if Mike Elko's team will remain perfect as the SEC's top team? One of the biggest question to surface in the final month of the regular season.
