TL;DR

  • LaNorris Sellers is undecided about his future at South Carolina or entering the NFL draft.
  • Sellers had a productive passing game against Clemson despite the Gamecocks' loss.
  • His 2025 season did not meet Heisman Trophy expectations set by his 2024 performance.
  • Coach Shane Beamer is discussing NFL futures with players but won't confirm the 2026 lineup.

After the Gamecocks' 28-14 defeat against their rivals, Clemson, on Saturday, quarterback LaNorris Sellers avoided inquiries regarding whether his future lies in Columbia or transitions to the NFL.

Sellers, with two years of eligibility remaining, is eligible for the draft as a redshirt sophomore. He indicated his choice would be made at a future time.

“I mean, when the decision comes to make a decision, when time comes to make a decision, I’ll make the decision that works best for me,” Sellers said Saturday.

Although they lost, he had one of his most productive passing performances, completing 23 of 42 attempts for 381 yards, scoring two touchdowns, and throwing two interceptions. Nevertheless, his 2025 season did not meet anticipated standards. Sellers was considered a top contender for The Heisman Trophy before the season began, following an exceptional 2024 performance where he accumulated 2,534 passing yards and 18 touchdowns, contributing to South Carolina's near qualification for The College Football Playoff.

The current season proved less fruitful. He accumulated 2,437 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and eight interceptions, achieving just two games with over 300 yards. He surpassed 300 yards against Missouri and Clemson, but only managed it once in eight SEC contests, with The Gamecocks holding a 1-7 record in conference matchups.

Coach Shane Beamer indicated he's had continuous NFL discussions with athletes but refused to forecast the 2026 lineup. The seller minimized rumors, encompassing possible transfer talk.
