Nicholas Singleton is knocking on Saquon Barkley's door.

By the end of the season, Penn State's current star running back might have broken it open entirely.

Singleton scored two touchdowns on Saturday in the Nittany Lions' romp of Nevada, and those two scores were quite significant.

With them, Singleton raised his career PSU total TDs amount to 42. That passed Lydell Mitchell to move into second place in Penn State history, behind just Barkley, who had 51 total touchdowns for the Nittany Lions, according to beat reporter Zane Brancefield.

Singleton is now also up to 34 career rushing touchdowns, which is tied for fourth in Penn State history. He's currently knotted up at 34 apiece with Ki-Jana Carter.

These are all quite great accomplishments for Singleton, who wants more. A bunch of Penn State players came back to school that didn't have to, because they wanted to chase a national championship.

That allows for record-chasing like this to happen along the journey. Singleton didn't come back to Happy Valley to run down Barkley. But if he runs down Barkley in the process? That'd be intense.

Singleton, of course, also has Kaytron Allen joining him on the RB depth chart at Penn State. Both are pretty impressive, the kind of player defenses simply don't want to see running at them.

But for now, Singleton and Allen look like dominant forces. They'll make PSU tough to beat.
