Penn State's Drew Allar carries deeper football perspective since season-ending injury image

Penn State quarterback Drew Allar says his season-ending ankle injury has reshaped the way he views football, offering a difficult but valuable lesson in perspective as he begins his recovery.

Allar, who underwent successful ankle surgery and was ruled out for the remainder of the year after being injured late in the Nittany Lions’ loss to Northwestern, spoke to On3 this week about the abrupt shift from leading the offense to watching from the sideline.

“I think for me, one of the biggest things is just seeing how everything operates around you,” Allar said. “When you’re the one playing, you don’t really see everything that goes on around you as much as you think you do. But now, when you’re sitting back and studying everything, you see a lot of different things unfolding.”

Allar said the experience has reinforced the fragility of a season and the importance of appreciating each opportunity. “It’s just perspective shifting,” he added. “Not taking anything for granted, because one play and the season can be done.”

Before the injury, Allar had thrown for 1,100 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions while completing nearly 65% of his passes.

Allar remains determined to return stronger. He is expected to make a full recovery and a deeper understanding of the game.
