Buccaneers' Chris Godwin gets injury update ahead of Week 3 image

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will look to continue their win streak to begin the season in a Week 3 matchup against the New York Jets.

Although there was a chance that Buccaneers receiver Chris Godwin could be returning from the season-ending injury he sustained in Week 7 of 2024, NFL insider Adam Schefter announced that the Penn State alum will get another week of recovery in hopes that he will return next week against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Tampa Bay will depend on the always reliable Mike Evans and rookie pass-catcher Emeka Egbuka, who is still questionable in the contest while battling hip and groin injuries.

Details on WR Chris Godwin's injury

In Week 7 of 2024, Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver exited the matchup early after a player fell on the veteran's ankle. He was diagnosed with a list of injuries, including a fractured fibula, a torn ligament in his foot, and a high ankle sprain.

With this news, the Buccaneers shut down the Pro Bowl receiver for the rest of the season, and Godwin underwent multiple surgeries in October of 2024 and in the spring of 2025.

There was speculation that Godwin could be making his return in Week 3 after logging two straight limited practices, something that hadn't been done for him since suffering the injury.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler believes that a return for Week 4 "feels like a real possibility" for the 29-year-old receiver.
