Former Ohio State Buckeyes and Florida Gators coach Urban Meyer wants to see good, competitive college football when it comes to the College Football Playoff.

But not at the expense of teams, in Meyer's opinion, deserving better. Meyer took serious issue with this trend during a recent episode of "The Triple Option" podcast, openly criticizing James Madison's playoff selection instead of a two-loss Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

“You’re telling the Fighting Irish to sit home and James Madison’s going? And some people, whether it’s right or — I don’t want to say right or wrong, or deserving or not, [but] the better team is supposed to be in the game,” Meyer said.

Meyer took it a step further, suggesting that JMU, a Group of Five team, should be under a microscope when determining playoff eligibility.

“I would mandate that a James Madison, or a non-Power Four, you have to play three programs in the top 50, or you can’t, you know, win your conference and win whatever [else], but you can’t be considered,” Meyer said.

If it were up to Meyer, it would be a sport-wide policy.

“And that would tell the ADs and all that because you have to be judged on that,” Meyer said. " And I’m not disrespecting. I coached in the MAC conference. It’s awesome. I mean, my God, there’s first-rounders in those conferences.”

Simply put, Meyer wants the playoffs to be competitive and balanced on both sides.

If JMU didn't need any extra motivation, it just got it in a rather direct and brutally honest way.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on TNT.
