Todd McShay isn't one to shy away from saying how he really feels about NFL prospects.
This includes Oregon Ducks quarterback Dante Moore, who chose to stay in Eugene after all, rather than enter NFL Draft this spring to potentially become the No. 2 overall pick.
McShay used few words to describe Moore's decision, but was pleased overall.
“It’s surprising that Dante Moore is going back to Oregon for another year, but it’s the right decision,” McShay said on "The McShay Show. “The first word that comes out of everyone’s mouth about this young man, Dante Moore, is maturity.”
Moore, 20, now has another year to develop as the starter under coach Dan Lanning. McShay said this is more than a return to school; this is a retooling of his overall game.

“Until you’re around him and get to spend some time with him, it’s hard to articulate just how mature he is," McShay said. "It started with the first scout in October, who was like ‘he’s got his stuff together too much to make a rash decision and come out just because he’s going to be a top-five pick.’ He sees the picture, unlike some others in the Draft. ‘I got a chance to be a first-rounder, so I’ve got to go.’ He sees the big picture.”
That "big picture" vision is another shot at winning a Big Ten title, which would be the Ducks' first since the 2024 season. It would also give the Ducks a chance to complete their unfinished story from this past season, which saw them fall in the Peach Bowl semifinal against the Indiana Hoosiers.
Come August, we'll see if Moore's decision to bet on himself pays off.
