Giants trade idea ships out former first-round pick for Jaxson Dart support image

It's officially the Jaxson Dart era in New York.

After Russell Wilson's disastrous Week 3 performance against the Kansas City Chiefs, the New York Giants are benching the veteran in favor of the 25th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Dart will get his first opportunity next Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers, who boast one of the league's best defenses. If the Giants want to support their rookie quarterback, they should look to surround the Ole Miss product with as much offensive talent as possible, which could mean acquiring a player who can contribute right now.

Giants Trade Idea Ships Kayvon Thibodeaux to Lions for David Montgomery

The Giants have a logjam at pass rusher right now, with Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and Abdul Carter all competing for snaps. New York should utilize their embarrassment of riches and trade Thibodeaux, who would be the easiest to part with thanks to the two years remaining on his contract.

Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox has the former Oregon standout No. 1 on his Trade Big Board Entering Week 4, and has the Detroit Lions listed as a possible destination.

"If the Giants aren't overly committed to Thibodeaux, now would be the perfect time to move him. The pivot to Dart at quarterback signals the start of a new era for New York. Moving Thibodeaux could bring back a quality offensive player and/or high draft pick to aid the young quarterback this season or next," wrote Knox.

"New York has some talented offensive skill players, but it should look to put as much talent around Dart as it can get."

While the Lions acquire a pass rusher to take some of the burden off of superstar Aidan Hutchinson, they send the Giants David Montgomery, their backup running back behind the supremely talented Jahmyr Gibbs, to make the trade go through.

While Big Blue has Cam Skattebo ready to take on a full workload following the injury to Tyrone Tracy, having two bruising running backs is better than one, and would help take some of the pressure off of Dart as he begins his NFL career.
