Dan Lanning reaffirms commitment to Oregon, blasts talk of coaching rumors image

TL;DR

  • Oregon Ducks coach Dan Lanning is not interested in the coaching merry-go-round.
  • Lanning stated he loves Oregon and plans to stay there forever.
  • He has a 44-7 record at Oregon and the Ducks are playoff contenders.
  • Lanning is content in Eugene despite other coaches garnering more interest.

Oregon Ducks coach Dan Lanning was unequivocal Saturday, stating he has no interest in the "doom and gloom" coaching merry-go-round. He decisively quelled rumors concerning his prospects as his team advances towards the playoffs.

Lanning has been instrumental in Oregon's recent achievements, positioning the Ducks as a contender for the national championship. Since his arrival in 2022, the program's core elements have remained consistent, with only the surrounding structures undergoing transformation. He discussed this matter during a segment on ESPN’s College GameDay this past Saturday, prior to the Ducks' game against USC.

When Pat McAfee, the host, inquired about the absence of his name from discussions regarding prominent coaching openings, such as those in the SEC, Lanning responded without delay.

“Because the grass is damn green, Pat. I love this place,” Lanning said. “You’ve got to be able to say, ‘Hey, appreciate what you have.’ And I appreciate what I have here so much. This will be my spot. This is where I’m at forever.”

Lanning boasts a 44-7 record at Oregon, highlighted by a third-place finish last season and a 9-1 record heading into the weekend. Despite his achievements, his name hasn't surfaced in recent coaching searches at LSU, Penn State, and Florida, largely for personal reasons. With coaches like Lane Kiffin, Eli Drinkwitz, Jon Sumrall, and Kenny Dillingham garnering more interest, Lanning appears content in Eugene.

Oregon is still a strong contender for The College Football Playoff, scoring an average of 39.0 points and conceding only 13.7 per game, both of which are top-10 national statistics. With Lanning at the helm, the Ducks are concentrating on the final part of the season.
