Ole Miss reportedly blocks Princewill Umanmielen transfer portal entry image

Ole Miss was dealt a late blow in the transfer portal this week when sack leader Princewill Umanmielen announced plans to enter, but the school is contesting his move as the window nears its close.

According to 247Sports, the Rebels have challenged Umanmielen’s entry and are not currently expected to process his paperwork. The development comes after the standout pass rusher recently signed a new contract with Ole Miss.

Sources told On3 that conversations remain ongoing between Umanmielen and Ole Miss, with all options still on the table. Friday was the final day for players to notify schools of their intent to enter the transfer portal, after which schools have 48 hours to process names.

Umanmielen recorded 44 tackles this past season, including 13 tackles for loss and nine sacks, emerging as one of the SEC’s most disruptive edge defenders. He spent his first two collegiate seasons with Nebraska before transferring to Oxford in 2025.

Ole Miss has been aggressive in the portal under new head coach Pete Golding, who guided the Rebels on a College Football Playoff run after replacing Lane Kiffin. The Rebels currently hold the No. 27 portal class and have built around retention, re-signing players such as Trinidad Chambliss and Kewan Lacy.

The situation mirrors Washington’s recent stance with Demond Williams. There's also a growing willingness by schools to enforce NIL contracts as the portal era evolves.
