Ole Miss' Lane Kiffin sends clear message after Florida win image

Lane Kiffin walked off the field Saturday night to a thunderous chant from the crowd at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. They said “We want Lane! We want Lane!”

Fresh off No. 7 Ole Miss’ 34-24 comeback win over Florida, the Rebels’ head coach again found himself at the center of coaching carousel speculation. Kiffin has been widely linked to Florida’s vacancy, which made for an awkward backdrop to a game with major postseason stakes.

Kiffin deflected questions about his future throughout the week and stuck with the theme after the win. “I love what we’re doing here,” he said via ESPN. “To even talk about it right now would be so disrespectful to our players and how well they played today. We’ve got a lot of things going here.”

The Rebels (10-1) tightened their grip on a potential College Football Playoff bid by holding Florida scoreless in the second half and riding Kewan Lacy’s career-high 224 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss threw for 301 yards as Ole Miss erased a 24-20 halftime deficit.

Kiffin has produced three straight 10-win campaigns in six years. It's the longest stretch of maintained success in program history, and a fourth 10-win seasons in five years.

“I think we’re in the good old days right now,” Kiffin said. “These runs don’t happen very often.”

Pressed again about Florida, Kiffin shrugged off the noise. “I don’t think we were distracted,” he said. “It’s different nowadays. Kids think differently.”

Ole Miss prepares for the latest edition of the Egg Bowl against Mississippi State in Starkville on Nov. 28.
