A win that came with a loud message from Rebels fans. As Lane Kiffin’s team knelt out the final seconds, chants of “We want Lane” came down.
This was a direct shot to Florida fans who have the Rebels coach on top of their list. As the Gators’ pursuit of Kiffin hangs over their spiraling season, the final weeks will be interesting.
Kewan Lacy rushed for 224 yards and three touchdowns. He delivered the go-ahead score on the first play of the fourth quarter and punctuated the victory with a 4-yard touchdown run with 1:43 left, capping a 31-carry performance that powered the Rebels (10-1, 6-1 SEC, No. 7 CFP) to their fourth 10-win season in the last five years.
Ole Miss finished with 538 yards of offense, while its defense clamped down after halftime, holding the Gators (3-7, 2-5) to 103 total yards and no points. Florida, which led 24-20 at the break, failed to score on its lone second-half trip into Rebels territory, with D.J. Lagway’s tipped pass intercepted by Wydett Williams.
Rebels quarterback Trinidad Chambliss threw for 301 yards and a touchdown for Ole Miss despite two failed goal-line drives. Lagway passed for 218 yards and accounted for two Florida touchdowns.
The Rebels College Football Playoff hopes get stronger by the week. While Florida’s road losing streak against ranked opponents reached 20 games. The noise around Kiffin’s future only grew louder. For now, he's in Oxford and has no clear plans of leaving.
