Lane Kiffin is taking six assistant coaches with him from Ole Miss to LSU.
The intriguing plot twist here is that those assistants got to coach with the Rebels in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal against Georgia under interim head coach Pete Golding.
Complicating matters further: Ole Miss won.
There's at least one more game, a CFP semifinal against Miami on Thursday, Jan. 8 at the Fiesta Bowl.
And no one knows if those coaches will stick around. The transfer portal is now open. There's work to be done at LSU.
Golding was asked what he knows, and his latest answer, shared by The Athletic, is painfully realistic:
"I don’t know. Do you know if you’re gonna show up at work tomorrow? I mean, it’s grown people making decisions, so I have no idea."

What Ole Miss assistant coaches are in CFP but leaving for LSU?
There are six assistants who coached in the CFP quarterfinal that will eventually join Lane Kiffin at LSU:
Offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr.
Tight ends coach and co-offensive coordinator Joe Cox
Wide receivers coach and passing-game coordinator George McDonald
Running backs coach Kevin Smith
Senior analyst Dane Stevens
Graduate assistant Sawyer Jordan
ESPN reports Weis is expected to coach in the Fiesta Bowl, although the assistants are first going to head to Baton Rouge to help with recruiting.
“Everything has been extremely clear and transparent between myself and Pete Golding through constant communication, including a plan all the way through this historic championship run,” Kiffin told ESPN on Friday morning. “What an amazing night for all Ole Miss players, coaches and fans.”
There's plenty to still be figured out here. It's certainly an unprecedented situation.
