When can Jeremiah Smith go to the NFL? Why Ohio State star WR is too ready for the Draft image

Jeremiah Smith may have been the best wide receiver in the country as a freshman. And he'll certainly have a case to be the best WR in the land as a sophomore.

There's nothing the Ohio State Buckeyes phenom can't do on the field. He's a generational talent.

And he's not going anywhere.

Because of the way the NFL Draft's rules work, Smith and OSU will be together for a while.

When can Jeremiah Smith go to the NFL Draft?

Jeremiah Smith is eligible to enter the 2027 NFL Draft.

That means the Ohio State superstar will remain in college football for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

If he had somehow been eligible to enter the draft after his freshman season, he likely would've been the first wide receiver picked. And that's probably true again this year, too.

But a player has to be three years removed from high school to enter the NFL Draft. Given that Smith didn't redshirt and just played right away as a college freshman, that means he'll have to get through at least his junior season to head off to the pros.

If he was feeling extra Buckeye-centric, he'd still be able to stay another year beyond that. But absolutely zero people will expect Smith to stay put beyond the 2026 season.

Smith and Alabama's Ryan Williams are the early favorites to be the top two WRs off the board in the 2027 NFL Draft.
