Ohio State coach Ryan Day is almost complete with his pre-game media obligations ahead of Saturday night's Big Ten Championship game against the Indiana Hoosiers Saturday night in Indianapolis.
Of all the aspects of the game Day has already addressed so far, the one some college football pundits remained curious about was whether the Buckeyes would play to win, or opt to rest starters ahead of the College Football Playoff.
Appearing on ‘Bussin’ With The Boys.‘, Day set the record straight.
“We’re in it, and we want to be the one seed,” Day said.:” I think everything matters when it comes down the stretch. If you’re just playing the numbers and you’re playing the trends, you want to be in a situation where you’re the No. 1-seed going into the playoffs.”
Day added, due to several reasons, that it would be unfair for those having valusble plsying time
“Winning a Big Ten championship does matter. It was one of the things that was on our list of goals (during the preseason),” Day said. “So it’ll be a great environment. It’s Indianapolis, they’ll have a great crowd. We’ll have a great crowd. So, you know, we want to win, we want to be undefeated, we want to be the one seed. That’s what’s motivating us.”
If his plan works, he looks like a genius. If not, he will more than likely be ridiculed for the next several weeks and months to come.
We will find out Saturday.
