Ohio State shook off a slow first half and the absence of its top two receivers to stay unbeaten with a 42-9 win over Rutgers on Saturday.
Julian Sayin threw two touchdown passes and Bo Jackson ran for 110 yards and two scores as the top-ranked Buckeyes (11-0, 8-0 Big Ten) pulled away by scoring on four straight second-half drives.
With Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate sidelined, tight end Max Klare led the receiving effort with seven catches for 105 yards. Sayin finished 13 of 19 for 157 yards. Ohio State leaned heavily on the run, outgaining Rutgers on the ground and controlling the tempo after halftime.
Coach Ryan Day said both injured receivers are day-to-day heading into next week’s trip to Michigan, where the Buckeyes will enter “The Big House” ranked No. 1 and unbeaten for the first time since 1973.
A 52-year span with OSU making history looking to pick up a College Football Playoff berth win or lose in the Big Ten title game.
