Can Jeremiah Smith go to the NFL? Explaining Ohio State WR's eligibility for draft image

The Ohio State Buckeyes have the best wide receiver tandem in the nation.

Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate give QB Julian Sayin such a luxury when he takes to the air. He can look either of their directions and know he's throwing to a future NFL Draft first-round pick.

Except they won't both be in the league after this season.

Tate is almost surely going to leave Columbus and head to the pro ranks.

Smith, though, has to wait.

Can Jeremiah Smith go to the NFL?

Jeremiah Smith is not yet eligible for the NFL Draft after this season.

A player has to be three years removed from high school to enter the draft.

Smith is a true sophomore, in only his second year since high school.

That speaks to how impressive he has been. Smith already had a case as the best WR in the country as a true freshman.

He hasn't done much to dissipate the hype as a sophomore. As long as nothing weird happens as a junior, Smith is expected to be the first wideout taken in the 2027 NFL Draft.

Ohio State is surely quite envied for this. They'll get three years out of Smith, who never looked overmatched collegiately and will continue to be as big a threat in the passing game as any player in the country.
