The Bill Belichick era has arrived at North Carolina.
The 73-year-old will make his college coaching debut in Week 1 of the 2025 season when his Tar Heels take on TCU. Belichick found his name in headlines for non-football reasons during the offseason — his relationship with Jordon Hudson has sparked plenty of discussions — but the focus will finally shift back to the field for this ACC vs. Big 12 matchup.
Only days before the season opener, Belichick announced that Gio Lopez will be the Tar Heels' starting quarterback. Lopez, a dual-threat QB who transferred from South Alabama to North Carolina in April, will have an opportunity to make a strong first impression in front of the legendary coach and home crowd.
