Media attention surrounding Bill Belichick’s relationship with Jordon Hudson is reportedly blocking any potential reunion between the former New England Patriots coach and the New York Giants, according to a report published this week.
Belichick and Hudson have been the subject of extensive coverage over the past year, particularly from the New York Post, which has chronicled everything from private family disputes to Belichick attending one of Hudson’s adult cheerleading competitions last week.
One Post report detailed a two-hour tirade from Belichick’s daughter-in-law alleging Hudson had gained too much influence over the 73-year-old coach’s personal life.
NBC’s Mike Florio reported that the relentless spotlight has become a significant factor for Giants ownership as it evaluates future coaching candidates. He cited a source “in a position to understand the dynamics,” Florio wrote that the Giants want no part of the media firestorm that would accompany hiring Belichick.
“The ongoing coverage of Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson by the New York Post is one of the many reasons for the Giants’ complete lack of interest,” Florio wrote. “The Giants have no interest in hiring a coach who has become a lightning rod for relentless coverage due to his relationship with Hudson.”
Belichick spent 24 seasons with the Patriots, winning six Super Bowls before mutually parting ways after the 2023 season. He took over at North Carolina this year but has remained a fixture in NFL coaching rumors, though he has publicly dismissed the notion of returning.
UNC dropped to 4-7 on Saturday and will miss the postseason in Belichick's first season at Chapel Hill. He previously spent 12 seasons with the Giants, winning two Super Bowls as defensive coordinator from 1979-90.
