Rumors and reports are swirling that Bill Belichick is not long for UNC. It has been an utter disaster so far, as basically nothing has gone right in the former NFL legend's foray into college football. The Tar Heels are a bad team and have been embarrassed on the field more than once this year.

As such, the idea now is that Belichick will be canned or bought out eventually. Some reports suggested that he was willing to take the buyout and move on, admitting defeat. There's been a lot of chatter about his future, which he just addressed in his Monday press conference

He said there is "zero truth" to those reports, also calling the rumors "categorically false." This comes after a statement with AD Bubba Cunningham that basically reinforced that idea. According to Belichick, he's not going anywhere. That's not good news for the Heels.

Bill Belichick has bad news for UNC fans hoping the team will move on

Whether or not Belichick can coach at the college level is immaterial now because it's clear he can't coach UNC. They don't have the resources to get him the talent he needs, which was an issue at the NFL level towards the end as well. He hasn't had a full offseason, but after this year, recruiting will be very hard.

It just isn't working. Belichick should be good enough schematically to help even a talentless Tar Heels defense look competent at times, but that hasn't been the case. 35 points in one half against a struggling Clemson Tigers team was both shocking and emblematic of the problem. Belichick doesn't have the juice to save this program.

It's commendable that UNC went big on this attempt. They wanted to make a relevant program, so they hired the greatest and most relevant coach of all time to helm it. It just didn't work, and the reports that the experiment would end sooner or later were a welcome bit of relief for fans. Now, they have to hold their breath again to see if and when UNC can actually turn things around under a new regime.
