Bill Belichick’s early tenure as North Carolina’s head coach has already been marked by an unusual mix of football scrutiny and off-field spectacle. The dynamic took another turn Saturday when Charlotte fans introduced a “Gold Digger Cam” during UNC’s road matchup against the 49ers, a trolling nod to Belichick’s high-profile relationship with 24-year-old Jordon Hudson.
Hudson, who is a former Miss Maine finalist and entrepreneur, has been in the public eye since news of her relationship with the 73-year-old six-time Super Bowl champion surfaced earlier this year. The couple’s nearly 50-year age gap has made them an easy target for criticism. At the Tar Heels’ opener against TCU, her presence on the sideline and interaction with Belichick went viral following the team’s 48–14 loss.
Against Charlotte, the “Gold Digger Cam” provided a fresh opportunity for opposing fans to weigh in. It was an on-brand, as Hudson herself recently filed to trademark the phrase “Gold Digger” for use in a jewelry line. A move that many saw as leaning into the narrative. The camera gag no doubt caught Belichick’s attention from the sideline.
Charlotte with the Gold Digger Cam - gonna need 49er fans to tell us if this something they always do as a reference to their Miner nickname, or if they snuck it in as a shot to Jordon Hudson pic.twitter.com/XswKral76E

For his part, Belichick appeared locked in on the field. But the larger conversation lingers about Hudson’s outsized visibility and will it be a distraction in Chapel Hill, or merely another subplot in a long football season?
Either way, as Belichick tries to turnaround UNC’s program in his first college head coaching role. The Tar Heels went on to beat Charlotte 20-3 for his first win at Chapel Hill.
