No matter which way you look at it, the Bill Belichick era at North Carolina is off to a dreadful start. Each opponent worth its salt has dominated the Tar Heels. They looked utterly outmatched against a Clemson team that came in with a 1-3 record.

There were always going to be a couple of things that could go wrong, but everything that could've has. Belichick has not been able to inspire any good play by anyone. His defensive schemes are not capable of slowing down any offense. The quarterback he handpicked in the portal has been benched and was awful before that.

So it should come as no surprise that Bleacher Report analyst Brad Sheppard named Belichick one of the biggest disappointments of the year. What's even more hilarious is that Clemson is also on the list, and they utterly dominated the Tar Heels. It's hard to disagree with the sentiment here.

"At first, headlines centered on Belichick's unique approach, such as employing a general manager to handle NIL, recruiting, and more. Later, coverage shifted to his tabloid-fueled relationship," Sheppard wrote. "Nowhere in there were there any signs that his coaching prowess would translate to this level, and it hasn't."

Belichick was clearly capable at the NFL level, at least. He was at the very least a competent defensive mind, and at most, the greatest coach ever. Nothing of the sort has shown up in Chapel Hill.

"Finding another win on the remaining schedule is a challenge, and Belichick already has been forced to squash rumors about negotiating an exit from UNC," Sheppard continued. "Oh yes, things are just rosy in Chapel Hill. Except for the exact opposite." it would be hard to blame UNC for seeking a way out, because what Sheppard has said is spot on.

Belichick has been an utter disaster, though a commendable attempt from a desperate program, that needs to be put out of its misery. If Belichick gets a second year at UNC, that will be a major surprise.
