Former Nebraska linebacker Will Compton offered a blunt message to Cornhuskers fans this week following news that former five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola is expected to enter the transfer portal after two seasons in Lincoln.

Raiola was one of Matt Rhule’s first top recruiting wins at Nebraska and is preparing to explore his options after an injury-shortened 2025 season. While the move rattled parts of the fan base, Compton said the decision did not catch him off guard.

On Tuesday's episode of Bussin’ With The Boys, Compton said he had heard behind-the-scenes rumblings that Raiola’s departure was likely. He also urged fans to accept the reality of the modern college football landscape and look ahead rather than dwell on what might have been.

“That’s not surprising,” Compton said. “All the evidence has led up to, he’s going to be hitting the portal at some point. … Listen, we’re going to find us a quarterback. Not even worried about this.”

Raiola arrived in Lincoln as a blue-chip prospect and one of the top quarterbacks in the 2024 recruiting class. He completed 72.4% of his passes for 2,000 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2025 before suffering a season-ending broken fibula. Compton praised Raiola’s talent and competitiveness but acknowledged how injuries, NIL and the transfer portal reshape roster continuity.

“This is the world we live in now,” Compton said. “He’s a hell of a player, but he’s not going to be the quarterback under center for Nebraska next year. So whoever that next guy is, I’m going to be the biggest fan.”

Nebraska offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen shared that outlook, saying the program will pursue the best available quarterback, whether from within the roster or the portal, and tailor the offense accordingly.

Nebraska will close its season against Utah in the Las Vegas Bowl on New Year’s Eve as Rhule and his staff begin shaping the program’s next chapter at quarterback.
