Kutztown and Frostburg State face off for the first time Saturday with a spot in the NCAA Division II football semifinals at stake.
The Golden Bears (13-0) are the top seed in their quadrant and ranked third nationally, and their performance in the first two rounds has backed that lofty status. Kutztown beat Bentley 52-0 in its opener and followed up with a 56-19 rout of Assumption last weekend.
Those results were welcome after the Golden Bears had to survive tough games against Bloomsburg and IUP heading into NCAA play.
Frostburg, meanwhile, is on a bit of a charmed run. The Bobcats (11-2) took out the quadrant's No. 2 seed, Johnson C. Smith, in the opening round, then squeaked out a 23-21 road win against California (Pa.) Last week.
