The Vanderbilt Commodores are in pretty much uncharted waters.

You'd have to go back to 1941 to find a time the football program had ever made a journey like this before.

The path is this: Vandy is 7-1.

The 'Dores haven't been 7-1 since 1941.

They won again Saturday, taking down No. 15 Mizzou, 17-10. The Commodores survived a late near-miss on a Hail Mary to hold on.

They had been tied 3-3 for a while, then went up 10-3, then were tied 10-10.

That's when Diego Pavia led one of his patentedly brilliant drives to set up a rushing touchdown for himself and a 17-10 lead.

Missouri, missing star QB Beau Pribula down the stretch due to injury, put together a good drive to set up the final throw, but it fell to the ground.

Vanderbilt got to party, again, as it chases a spot in the College Football Playoff.

It's a realistic goal at this point. Their only loss is to Alabama, one of the most respectable defeats possible.

They'll have to close strong, but at this point, it feels like anything is possible for Clark Lea's Commodores.

They keep proving the doubters wrong, and it's a heck of a lot of fun to be a Vandy football fan, for the first time in a long time.
