UAB verified that a player was apprehended as the suspect in the assaults, though the player's identity was withheld.

"We’re grateful to report that two players injured in an incident this morning at the Football Operations Building are in stable condition. Our thoughts are with them and their families as they recover. The suspect — another player — remains in custody," UAB said in a statement.

Although UAB is not releasing the suspect's identity, CBS Sports reported jail records indicate that sophomore offensive lineman Daniel Mincey was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and attempted murder on Saturday.

Is UAB still playing today?

UAB is going forward with its 3 p.m. ET game against South Florida.

“The team elected to play today’s game,” the school said in a statement Saturday. “UAB’s top priority remains the safety and well-being of all of our students. Given patient privacy and the ongoing investigation, we have no further comment at this time.”

Facing a 7-3 USF team, the Blazers are considered underdogs and will conclude their season against Tulsa on November 29th, having already been eliminated from bowl contention.
