Ole Miss and Mississippi State added a new chapter to their rivalry on Friday afternoon. It was reportedly precipitated by a high-profile heist that would make the Louvre's capers proud.
This year's iteration of the Egg Bowl allegedly saw a pair of Bulldogs fans swipe star quarterback Trinidad Chambliss' kit. The incident reportedly took place under the shadow of night. The issue didn't seem to impact the Rebels too much, although it is likely to linger in Ole Miss and Mississippi State fans' minds for eternity.

Who stole Trinidad Chambliss' jersey?
Trinidad Chambliss' jersey was reportedly whisked away in the thick of the night, according to Lane Kiffin. The uniform was swept away in a haze, with Kiffin indicating that a pair of Mississippi State fans snuck into Ole Miss' locker room at 3 a.m. ET on Friday morning.
Kiffin claimed that the heist was captured on video at Davis Wade Stadium. There aren't many more details available at present. However, it's clear Chambliss and the Rebels weren't too affected by the theft. He's outfitted in his strip at present.

Why was Trinidad Chambliss' jersey stolen?
The reason for the alleged theft of Chambliss' kit was a simple one: he's the star quarterback of Ole Miss' football team ahead of one of its highest-profile matchups, a duel against its hated rival, Mississippi State. There's precedent to Friday's incident — in 1926, Bulldogs fans warded off Rebels supporters with wooden chairs.

What Lane Kiffin said about stolen jersey incident
Lane Kiffin told SEC Network's Marty Smith, Ole Miss is aware of who committed the caper. There are two videos of the break-in, per The Athletic's Ross Dellenger — one showing the break-in itself, the other showing the fans walking out with the kit.
"This noise... This has been going on for weeks. This isn't new for us."

Egg Bowl rivalry, explained
The Egg Bowl is one of college football's preeminent rivalries, a clash of intrastate rivals which ranks among the sport's fiercest quarrels. The rivalry has lasted the better of two centuries, with Ole Miss and Mississippi State first locking horns in 1901.
The matchup has played host to a number of notable moments. Horsemen have traipsed atop the Oxford and Starkville plains for decades. Both sides have endured heartbreak — the Rebels dropped 17 of their first 23 matchups with the Bulldogs, including a 13-game losing spell. In 1926, Ole Miss outgunned its hated foe, 7-6. That set off a 10-match unbeaten streak for the Rebels. Eight of those wins were coated in gold — in 1927, The Golden Egg was erected. The hardware is actually made of brass. It features a football that looks similar to the devices used in rugby.
The Rebels currently lead the all-time series, 66-49-6. They were largely aided by the program's dominance under Johnny Vaught's tutelage; Ole Miss went 19-2-4 against the Bulldogs during his tenure.

Chambliss enjoyed perhaps the best performance of his Ole Miss career on Friday afternoon, tearing the Bulldogs defense apart to the tune of 23-of-34 passing for 359 yards and four scores. If the prospect of having to sport a backup jersey was a problem, he didn't let it be known — at least not while on the field.
Chambliss' performance was adorned in blissfulness. He was a spell-binder in Ole Miss' pocket, lining passes all across the Davis Wade Stadium pasture.
