Former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer has landed a new coaching job following his dismissal at UAB. He returns to a familiar setting in Tennessee high school football.

Dilfer is set to take over once again as head coach at Lipscomb Academy, the Nashville-based program he previously led from 2019-22. His return comes less than two weeks after he was fired as head coach of the UAB Blazers football.

Dilfer finished his tenure at UAB with a 9-21 overall record in two and a half seasons. While the Blazers opened the 2025 season with a promising 2-1 start, the momentum stalled during a three-game losing streak that ultimately led to his dismissal.

Before his move to the college ranks, Dilfer built one of the state’s premier high school programs at Lipscomb Academy. He posted a 44-10 record with the Mustangs and won three consecutive conference titles from 2020-22. The program went 12-20 after his departure, finishing below.500 in each of the past three seasons.

Now back in Nashville, Dilfer returns to a program where he enjoyed his greatest coaching success and is expected to immediately boost a team searching for an edge.
