The Toledo Rockets appear to have made a perfect hire as their next head football coach.

Toledo was forced to hit the market to find a new coach after Jason Candle left for UConn, but the search has ended in success.

On Wednesday morning, ESPN's Pete Thamel reported that the Rockets are lining up Mike Jacobs to be their next head coach.

Jacobs has most recently been at FCS power Mercer.

As far as having things going for him, Jacobs pretty much has it all.

He's a native of Maumee, just outside of Toledo.

He played offensive line at Ohio State.

And he's a winner.

Jacobs coached Notre Dame College in Division III to a 42-8 record from 2016-2019.

Then he was the coach at Division II Lenoir-Rhyne for four years, going 32-9.

He's been at Mercer in FCS, the smaller portion of Division I, for two seasons, going 20-6 and making the FCS Playoffs both seasons.

Jacobs has never lost more than three games in a season as a head coach.

Last offseason, Jacobs was involved in the Bowling Green coaching search before the Falcons landed on Eddie George.

Now, a year later, Jacobs is finally coming home.
