A lot of college football fans were waiting to see what Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning was going to do in his first start of the season on the road against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Well, Manning did not live up to the hype at all in the first start of the season in a 14-7 loss for Texas against Ohio State.

In the game against the Buckeyes, he completed 56.7% of his passes for 170 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Manning did not look like a Heisman Trophy candidate or a number one overall pick kind of player at all in this game. He was getting a lot of hype during the offseason, but it came crashing down after his performance against the Buckeyes.

College Football Writer Claims That Texas Longhorns Quarterback Arch Manning Has a Lot to Clean Up On

Sam Khan Jr. of the Athletic wrote about which quarterbacks in college football had their stock rise and which ones had their stocks fall in Week 1. To no surprise, Manning's stock plummeted. Khan believes that he has a long way to go and will need to fix a lot of things and said,

"Manning’s grand opening was rough. He didn’t look comfortable until well into the second half, and once he did, he unleashed quality throws and moved the offense. But too many times, balls were off target, particularly in critical moments. Some grace is advised considering the environment, that it was his first career road start and against the defending champs. But there’s a lot to clean up in the coming weeks."

Maybe there was a reason why Quinn Ewers was the starting quarterback for Texas for the last two seasons, even when fans called for Manning to start. Did head coach Steve Sarkisian know what he was doing when he had Manning on the bench after all during those years? Well, the Longhorns will face the San Jose Spartans in the next game.

Even if Manning does well, no one will believe in him against inferior competition. College football fans are going to have to wait and see how he will perform when SEC Conference play begins.
