Texas A&M ends 2025 season in top 10 — Mike Elko eyes “another step” for the Aggies image

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — While the Texas A&M Aggies’ College Football Playoff run came to a disappointing end at Kyle Field, they still closed the 2026 season among the nation’s elite, finishing inside the top 10 in the final Associated Press poll at the No. 8 spot.

Texas A&M finishes at No. 8 in the final AP Poll of the 2025 season.

The Aggies, who ended the year ranked No. 8, capped off an 11–2 campaign under second-year head coach Mike Elko. Their postseason defeat, a narrow semifinal loss to Miami, marked the program's first-ever College Football Playoff berth. The Miami Hurricanes went all the way from Kyle Field during the first-round to the National Championship on Monday night, losing to Fernando Mendoza and the Indiana Hoosiers, 27-21.

"Then I said to the guys coming back, there's still another major step we have to take as a program to finish. I think the last two games showed that." Texas A&M's Mike Elko said following their first-round defeat at home.

"It's a rallying cry to the guys that are still here and still have time to play. But I don't think we can turn our back on the guys who just finished their careers here and everything that they accomplished and everything that they did for Texas A&M football."

Texas A&M will kick off the 2026 season at home against Missouri State on September 5.
