Just two weeks ago, South Dakota State was flying high, undefeated and ranked No. 2 in the FCS heading into a showdown with No. 1 North Dakota State.
While it wasn't a shock to see the Bison deal the Jackrabbits their first loss, the 38-7 margin, coupled with last week's home loss to Indiana State, suddenly has SDSU reeling ahead of another rivalry game.
The series between South Dakota State and South Dakota is one of the oldest in the country, dating to 1889. The schools face off for either the 118th or 119th time (they may or may not have played each other twice in 1901, depending on who you ask), with the overall series history almost evenly split.
Not in dispute: SDSU's recent dominance. The Jackrabbits have won 13 of the last 15 matchups, though they needed the first overtime game in series history to do so last year in Brookings. This year, the Interstate Series moves back down I-29 to Vermillion with the Coyotes hoping to extend the Jackrabbits' slump.
