The Los Angeles Rams have enjoyed sustained success at the quarterback position over the last few years, thanks to future Pro Football Hall of Famer Matthew Stafford.

Since acquiring the former No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft from the Detroit Lions, the Rams have won a Super Bowl and have been a threat in the NFC every year Stafford is healthy.

But at age 37, Los Angeles can't expect to rely on the former Georgia star for much longer, and it may be time to start considering the future of the quarterback position.

NFL Mock Draft Has Rams Selecting Penn State Star Drew Allar

In a recent mock draft from Sports Illustrated, Randy Gurzi has the Rams using the 18th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft on Penn State quarterback Drew Allar, landing the heir to Stafford.

"This would be a gift for the Rams if Drew Allar falls this far, allowing Sean McVay to develop a new signal-caller. The only question will be if he starts as a rookie or if they'll keep Matthew Stafford around for at least another season," wrote Gurzi.

Allar would be a homerun selection for L.A., especially if they keep Stafford around for another season or two to allow the Nittany Lion time to develop.

Sean McVay is one of the brightest offensive minds in football, and giving him a physically gifted young quarterback to mold into his future signal-caller is a recipe for success.

Allar is listed at six-foot-five, and has a strong arm, everything you would want in your franchise quarterback. The only questions surrounding the prospect are accuracy and decision-making, which are things he can work on if given the time to sit on the bench and watch a pro like Stafford.

Even if it's not Allar, the Rams should certainly start doing their due diligence on quarterbacks for the future, as Stafford isn't getting any younger and injury concerns loom.
