Lane Kiffin finally made the worst-kept secret in college football: he was leaving Ole Miss and wouldn't be coaching them in the College Football Playoff.
Kiffin made the announcement on social media.
"After a lot of prayer and time spent with family, I made the difficult decision to accept the head coaching position at LSU."
Kiffin continued to say that he was hoping he'd be allowed to stay with the team and coach them in the CFP, but was denied by athletic director Keith Carter despite the fact that the Ole Miss Players wanted him to coach.
Kiffin concluded his statement by saying he will be rooting hard for his former team to bring home their first national championship, which they haven't done since Johnny Vaught was head coach in the 1960s.
There are also reports that Kiffin gave his assistant coaches an ultimatum: be on the plane with me to Baton Rouge or be left behind.
For now, it looks as if defensive coordinator Pete Golding will coach the team in the CFP. Golding has been an assistant for years under Kiffin. The interesting part is that Ole Miss did not call him the interim head coach; they said head coach, so you wonder if they just hired him on the spot.
Either way, Golding will be coaching the Rebels in the CFP. We will see if it will affect their seeding in the CFP on Tuesday when the rankings are released.
