Oklahoma field goal ruled a miss on impossibly close call for Tate Sandell image

Tate Sandell hadn't missed a kick since his first one for Oklahoma this season.

But on Friday night, he missed a gotta-have-it field goal from chip shot range.

It was really, really close.

The ball sailed above the left upright, and it was ruled wide left.

Replays showed the ball looking very close to going through.

The ESPN officiating analyst said he believed it was the right call to say it missed.

The football does have to pass 100% on the inside of the upright.

When it's higher than the upright, it can't be reviewed.

ESPN's Chris Fowler even called that it was good, but it wasn't.

Oklahoma was down 10 and was kicking to get within one score. It didn't work out, but not because the strategy was wrong.

Their usually reliable kicker simply didn't make it happen this time, and OU's season is over.
