We've never seen a Week 1 college football game quite like this.
Nine months after meeting in the College Football Playoff, top-ranked Texas takes on No. 3 Ohio State in the season opener as the Buckeyes begin their national title defense at the Horseshoe.
This year's Longhorns team looks different from the group that suffered a bitter loss in the CFP semifinals in January. That's because there's a new man under center — Arch Manning, a consensus five-star recruit in the 2023 class and the ballyhooed nephew of Peyton and Eli. With Manning at the helm, Texas is the top-ranked team in the nation for the first time since 2005.
Manning's first test is a significant one, with Ryan Day and the Buckeyes riding high after dominating the field in the CFP. Sophomore receiver Jeremiah Smith is a legitimate Heisman Trophy contender, and he'll have a new quarterback lobbing him passes, as former five-star Julian Sayin gets the nod.
